1. What data do we collect?

When you visit the Site we collect some data directly from you. This information can be data you directly provide on the Site or data through enrolling on courses and your participation plus any data from third parties that you interact with through OnCourseTrading. We also collect data automatically through analytical tools that tell us device information and what parts of the Site you interact with.

1.1 What type of data do you collect?

We may collect data when you use or access the Site to provide you with a better user experience. Below are some examples.

When you register as a Student or Instructor and use the Site, including through a third-party platform, we collect any data you provide directly, including:

When visiting the Site, you may want to enrol on a course. To do this you must sign up for an account. When you create your account, you will be asked to provide your email address, a password, a username and profile name. We may request more information from you if you request to be an Instructor, such as a bio, location, hobbies. We will then assign you a unique account reference number (“Account Reference”).

Profile data

Following registration, you may upload a profile picture and add social media links such as Facebook and Twitter. You may also add a profile bio, website link and other data. Your profile data is publicly visible to anyone visiting the Site.

Shared content

The purpose of the Site is to encourage visitors to interact with each other. This includes posting messages, testimonials, photo’s, comments, questions and uploading video, audio and creative content. Any such content may be publicly accessible by others, depending on where it was posted.

Course data

When you enrol on a course, we collect information on which courses you have applied for, details of partial and completed courses, quizzes, assignments and contact you have made with Instructors and other Students. You can access your interactions and course information from your account dashboard. Various tabs provide a record of your data.

Student payment data

We collect certain data when you make a purchase, such as your name and post code, in order to fulfil your order request. You must also provide certain payment and billing data directly to our third-party payment processing partners, including your name, credit/debit card information, billing address, and post code. For security, OnCourseTrading does not collect or store sensitive cardholder data, such as full credit card numbers or card authentication data.

Instructor payment data

If you register as an Instructor, you can link your PayPal account to the Site to receive payments from students who enrol on courses. PayPal is our preferred payment provider. We may choose to link to other third-party payment providers. When you link a payment account, we collect certain information about your account. This includes you account ID, your email address, billing or correspondence address, or other data, in order to send payments to your account.

Important: The collection, use, and disclosure of your payment and billing data is the responsibility of your payment account provider. Please read their Privacy Policy to understand their data collection processes.


When visitors leave comments on the Site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.


If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Data about your accounts on other services

We may provide you with the option to register or login to the Site using various social media accounts, including but not limited to Facebook or Twitter. In these cases, we may collect certain information from them such as your full name, profile picture, login email address, location assigned to the account and the physical location of your device(s). We may also collect your birthday, gender, friends list or contacts. We will request your permission to access information from your social media account before proceeding.

This data and the services are made available to us through the third=party APIs. The data we receive will be dependent on the privacy settings you have made on those third-party accounts. You are responsible for those privacy settings. We recommend you regularly review those privacy settings and understand what information is accessible. When you access or interact with the Site through a third party platform or service, or click on any third party links, the collection, use, and sharing of your data will also be subject to the privacy policies, terms of use and other agreements of that third party provider.

Course reviews and surveys

We take customer satisfaction very seriously. We therefore may ask you to complete a survey, give reviews or provide a testimonial. If you decide to participate, we will collect and store the data you provide as part of participating. The data we collect is used to ensure the Site is meeting our high standards. Where we use a third-party platform to administer a survey, the third party’s privacy policy will apply. We reserve the right to contact you about your feedback, and if found to be malicious, may remove it.

Communications and support

We will collect and store data for registered and non-registered users when you have an enquiry or support question. We will collect the email address you registered with, your username, IP address, location, device and other related data. This data will help us to respond to your enquiry and resolve any support related issues. In some cases, we may ask for additional information to resolve your question.

1.2 Data we collect through automated means

We automatically collect some data from you when you access the Site, such as browsing courses and viewing training material.

Device data

We collect data about your device, such as mobile, tablet or computer. This includes the type of device, operating system, browser, language, domain data, your IP address and other (‘Device Data’).

Statistical data

When you use the Site, we record statistical information about those interaction. This can include the length of time you spend on the Site, time spent on page, time spent on course, the number of session visits, what pages you have visited and any search terms you entered on the Site. Geographic data

When you visit the Site, we collect your IP address. The IP address will tell us your geographical location, Country, City and geographical co-ordinates.

Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. 4. Who do we share your data with?

We share certain data about you with Instructors, other Students, analytic tools, your social media platforms, companies helping us run surveys, and advertising companies who help us promote our Site. We may also share your data as needed for security or legal compliance.

We may share your data with third parties under the following circumstances or as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy:

With Your Instructors: We share data that we have about you, with the exception of your registered email address, with Instructors relating to courses you enrol on or request information about, so they can improve their courses for you and other students. This data may include things like your city, Country, browser language, operating system, device settings, the site that brought you to OnCourseTrading, and your activities on OnCourseTrading. If we collect additional data about you (like age or gender), we may share that too. We will not share your registered email address with Instructors and we ask that you don’t. We may enable our Instructors to implement Google Analytics on their course pages to track sources of traffic to their courses and optimize their course pages.

Never share your bank information or personal financial situation or information with an Instructor or other Students.

With Other Students and Instructors: Depending on your settings, your shared content and profile data may be publicly viewable, including to other Students and Instructors. If you ask a question to an Instructor, your information (including your profile name) may also be publicly viewable by other users depending on your settings. You can review your settings within your dashboard area.

With Service Providers, Contractors, and Agents: We share your data with third-party companies who perform services on our behalf, like payment processing and Google ads, email and hosting services, and customer services and support. These service providers may access your personal data and are required to use it solely as we direct, to provide our requested service.

With Analytic Tools: As part of our use of third-party analytics tools like Google Analytics (as detailed in Section 1),

To Enable Social Media Features: The social media features in the Site, may allow the third-party social media provider to collect things like your IP address and which page of the Site you were visiting, and to set a cookie to enable the feature. You can update or terminate your account from within the Site. You can also export a copy of your data directly from the Site. Parents who believe we’ve unintentionally collected personal data about their underage child should contact us for help deleting that information.
